Marseille

Your Captain welcomes you on board for the day for discovering a route that you have previously selected from this circuit:

Calanques National Park – from Marseille to Cassis
This cruise starts by following the contours of the coast near Marseille, with a fine view of all its historical highlights.
Then we will head south of the bay of Marseilleveyre towards rugged white cliffs, the Croisette Cape and its Baie des Singes (Monkey’s Bay). The waterways narrow as we approach the Croisette Cape, located between the coast and Maïre Island – a magnificent way into the epicentre of the Calanques National Park.

The Goudes, and Callelongue are the farthest districts that can be reached by road, and we will wave them goodbye as we continue with our cruise. Now you will see at your right the Riou Isles (Jarre, Calseraigne, Riou, Congloué, Moyades, and Impériaux), and at your left the Calanques range of mountains.
This range of rugged limestone white cliffs goes from Marseille up to Cassis, makes numberless inlets, and inlets along the coast, and it is a unique formation in the French coast. The calanques (inlets) are the result of former river valleys that were partially submerged when the level of water rose. Nowadays, they have formed microhabitats, where dwellers of fishing shacks, yachtsmen, and hikers spend unforgettable moments.

During this cruise (930am – 630pm) you will explore the most famous and splendid inlets, as well as some others more isolated, and hidden.
Here is a list of their names in order of appearance, once we have sailed pass the Croisette Cape – Calanque of Callelongue, of the Mounine, of Marseilleveyre, of the Ecu, the Podestat, the Sormiou, of the Voile, the Morgiou, the Sugiton, of the Pierres Tombées, of the Œil de Verre, the Devenson, of the Essaïdon, of Oule, of En-Vau, of Port-Pin, and last but not least the calanque of Port-Miou.

You can choose between the following different routes :

1 The Côte Bleue
After leaving the Old Port in Marseille, you will appreciate an expansive view of the impressive range of mountains Nerthe (or Côte Bleue), from the Estaque until Carry-le-Rouet (provided the weather conditions are appropriate). You will pass the Port of Commerce in Marseille, and the “Euroméditerranée” district — which is currently in full development. As the boat will go nearer, you will be able to discern this range of limestone mountains – light tones at the beginning of the tour, like the calanques near Cassis, and then the tonalities will gradually turn orange a color that combines perfectly well with the green pine trees that grow long the water’s edge, and then finally with the deep blue waters. You will have noticed from the moment we left the Port, the dotted line that cuts the rocky mountain range from side to side.  This is the rail track that connects Marseille to Miramas. It is a quite impressive view to see either at close or far distance, and admire its fine bridges and viaducts — masterpieces of the impeccable architecture at the time. Then you will discover the calanques (inlets) microcosmos full of life, where local fishermen, hunters, dwellers of fishing shacks and tourists co-exist – each enjoying in their own way this spot that has been visited since the dawn of times.
Along this enjoyable tour you will discover: the Grand Maritime Port of Marseille (GPMM), former autonomous Port, the Estaque, the Calanques of Corbières, the Resquilladou, the Calanque of the Aiguillon, the Aragnon, the Calanque of Pierres Tombées, the Calanque of Figuerolles and the Batterie, the Calanque of the Vesse, the Calanques of Niolon, the Deux Frères, the Pointe de l’Homme, the Calanque of Méjean, the Estéous, the Calanques of Figuières, the Anthénors, the Calanque of the Redonne, the Madrague of Gignac, the Calanques des Eaux Salées, the islet of Mornas, Notre Dame du Rouet, the Calanque of Rouet, Carry-le-Rouet, before heading back to Marseille bypassing the North of the Frioul island.

2 Calanques National Park – the Highlights
This cruise starts in the same direction as the cruise “Calanques National Park – from Marseille to Cassis”. You will contour the coast of Marseille and appreciate its historical and visual landmarks.
Then, we will sail through the southernmost point of the Bay of Marseille, and head towards the Marseilleveyre impressive rugged white cliffs, the Croisette Cape, and its Baie des singes (Monkey’s Bay). The waterways narrow as we approach the Croisette Cape, located between the coast and Maïre Island – a magnificent way into the epicentre of the Calanques National Park.
The Goudes, and Callelongue are the farthest districts that can be reached by road, and we will wave them goodbye as we continue with our cruise eastward. Now you will see at your right the Riou Isles (Jarre, Calseraigne, Riou, Congloué, Moyades, and Impériaux), and at your left the Calanques range of mountains.  This range of rugged white limestone cliffs goes from Marseille up to Cassis, makes numberless inlets, and inlets along the coast, and it is a unique formation in the French coast. The calanques (inlets) are the result of former river valleys that were partially submerged when the level of water rose. Nowadays, they have formed microhabitats, where dwellers of fishing shacks, yachtsmen, and hikers spend unforgettable moments.
For this cruise, we have selected for you the most beautiful inlets dotted along the coast; the most outstandingly beautiful inlets, that is. Namely Sormiou, and Morgiou; the most secluded, such as Marseilleveyre, and Sugiton… In our modest opinion, the best way to really enjoy the astonishing beauty of these natural spots is to drop the anchor and do a stopover, so that you can enjoy a magical moment of peace and quiet having a drink, under the reflection of the sun, or in the water with mask, goggles and flippers to discover the underwater wonders…

3 Out and about Marseille
Board on this cruise that will contour the coast of Marseille – a boat trip lasting 1,5 hours of mixed itinerary, that will show you a view of the historical footprints of Marseille, and its natural settings that are well preserved despite the immediate urban life.
We will start the route sailing through the calanque of Lacydon, an ancient inlet where the Greeks based themselves to build the city of Marseille, and which today has become the Old Port. From the boat you will have an unrestricted view of the Town Hall, Saint-Victor Abbey, the Basilique of Notre-Dame de la Garde, the fortress of Saint-Jean and Saint-Nicolas, as well as the Pharo Palace. Your boat will sail pass La Major Cathedral, the MuCEM, the Villa Méditerranée, the EuroMed district, and the CMA-CGM tower.
You will then head southbound of the coast of Marseille, towards the Cove of the Catalan, the Vallon des Auffes, Malmousque, the Degaby islet, the Roucas Blanc district, and the beaches of Prado, with the new arena Vélodrome in the background.
Once we have passed the Pointe Rouge, and the Madrague de Montredon, we will arrive south to the Port of the Goudes, the Croisette Cape, and Maïre islet.
On the way back you will sail along the Frioul island, and you will discover the ancient Port of Pomègues, the Caroline Hospital, and if you fancy it why not have a stopover for a swim while the weather allows you to.
Before we reach the Old Port, we will approach as much as we can the If Castle so that you can appreciate the Côte Bleue towards the North – this is another of the cruises we have currently on offer.
